The 1st thing all the supposed Guru’s will tell you is it’s in the list. the very next thing they tell you is you need traffic. This is what I am focusing on, if you can get traffic to your website then you should easily be able to build a list as long you have relevant information and build an interest in what you are marketing. To me traffic is probably the most important factor, If i can get the traffic to my particular site I should be able to build a decent list by offering a free newsletter or give away a good e-book relative to the information my guests are looking for. This goes for a Blog or just a regular website that you are promoting.

What is a Blog, Blogging started as sort of a online diary where people would put their daily happenings in a post for others to read and share. Blogs in the beginning were kind of like an online message board that people would post to and comment on. So where are Blogs today? So what is the benefit of using a blog to get more traffic to your website, well by using a Blog format you can keep your readers up to date in your market with timely posts that are are relevant to you and them. By catering to specific markets you build a loyal reader base that will be interested in your upcoming posts and what you have to say. For instance say you have a website that promotes country music and you use that website to make money through affiliate marketing and Adsense, it would be a good idea to have a blog as a subset of that website to talk about your favorite singers and give your readers a chance to comment and maybe share or disagree with your posts. Then on that post you can link to a page on your website that promotes that particular singer and offer CD sales, Books, Merchandise and Adsense.

Now why do this? why not just promote the website and get traffic to the page directly? There are a few great reasons why you should have a blog, 1st Blogs rate very well in the search engines, Google loves Blogs and favors links that are found in blogs if they find that Blogs and the links are relevant to each other. 2nd people are passionate about the things they love and will share with their friends interesting sites that they feel are interesting to them. A Blog gives your readers a chance to sound off via comments about what you are saying.
